CCAs

These are 2 separate entities of which I was associated with. The former being a CCA that took members from all courses within the design school. Our job was meant to assist at school-related events as guides, facilitators, ushers and things of that sort. I was part of the Main Committee that took care of the behind the scenes work. My job mostly consisted of reaching out to the members of the CCA and gathering their feedback to ensure the future of this CCA. I also helmed certain events that required reaching out to members of the public including The Salvation Army for a donation we had.

The latter being a smaller group of only members within my course (Product Design). Our objective is to explore and discover the aspects and skills of our future jobs on our own terms. The tutors in charge would simply guide and facilitate anything we wanted to learn. These things could include crafting using concrete casting or making use of resin which are all things we had not learned previously.

Career

Magic Wok (Nov 2016 - Oct 2017)

As a food runner, I prepared the tables for customers, aided in the preparation of ingredients, distributed the food to the tables, and if needed be, settled payments. It was my first real job and I appreciate the lessons I got from it including, role delegation, risk assessment, customer handling, and working under pressure.

NLB Service Partner (June 2019 - Aug 2020)

My work within NLB has mainly consisted of book placement, packing, and data entry. At times it also required research to be done on current media and what was popular with my particular age group. As a service partner working on an ad hoc basis, I usually came to work only when called which was when a younger member of the workforce was needed. Be it with a different perspective or a better grip with technology. This job gave me a sense of empowerment in the sense that even with a lack of experience, I still am a useful member of the workforce.

Tinkermind Intern (June 2020 - Oct 2020)

This internship was done in my final year of polytechnic. It was an enriching experience where I got to experience different types of making and opened myself up to the different people in the industry.

I participated in multiple projects that were used to teach secondary school students and those of that age the value of making.
